Summertime Blues is one of our more unique sauces. It is built heavy on blueberry, punched up with ghost pepper, and doesn’t fit into any neat category. At festivals and events, the number one question we get asked is: What do I put it on?
Here is where it belongs:
Smoked meats. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork. Anything rich with smoke and fat plays right into Summertime Blues. Brush it on while the meat is hot or drizzle it right before serving.
Wings. If you like sweet heat wings, this one hits harder. Toss fried or smoked wings with it while they are still hot. It gives you that glazed finish without turning sticky.
Cheese boards. Summertime Blues is built for fat and salt. Brie, goat cheese, aged cheddar, blue cheese. A little drizzle across the board pulls everything together.
Ice cream. Vanilla soft serve or any basic vanilla scoop. Summertime Blues over the top tastes like a spicy blueberry compote. It sounds wrong until you try it.
Burgers. Big greasy burgers with bacon, cheddar, fried eggs, anything that drips when you pick it up.
Duck. Roast duck, duck fat fries, seared duck breast. It needs acid and heat to balance the richness. Summertime Blues is perfect for this
Breakfast sandwiches. Biscuits, sausage, egg, and cheese. Put Summertime Blues on it instead of vinegar-based hot sauce or jam. You will not go back.
Grilled vegetables. Especially heavy ones like eggplant, mushrooms, and squash. It adds punch without getting syrupy or weird.
Pork belly. If you are making pork belly burnt ends, toss them in Summertime Blues when they come off the smoker. You will be thinking about it for a while.
Charcuterie. Prosciutto, soppressata, salami. Summertime Blues fits right in and cuts through the salt and fat without blowing out the flavor.
Fried chicken. Whether you drizzle it over fried chicken or hit a biscuit with it, it just works. No notes.
Savory waffles. Chicken and waffles, bacon and egg sandwiches on waffles, anything that blends sweet and salty is a good target.
Roasted sweet potatoes. Roast them, smash them, fry them, whatever you want. Summertime Blues brings it together better than any syrup or brown sugar could.
Cocktails. If you feel like pushing it, splash a little into a margarita.
